There have been highs and lows during 2015, and we’ve been through them all together. In this post, let’s explore some of the highlights of 2015 before the year ends.
Kpop companies have finally realized the potential of tours that head outside of Asia. Some major shows for this year include Big Bang‘s Made Tour, which came 2 years after their last tour, Alive. BTS, who had a monster year, also embarked on the Episode II: The Red Bullet tour, starting June 6th 2015 in Malaysia and ending August 29th in Hong Kong.
Former U-KISS member Dongho surprised everyone when he announced his engagement and pending nuptials. At 22 years old (Korean age), the former entertainer tied the knot this November.
On the heels of Dongho’s announcement, member Eli not only revealed his marriage, but informed fans that his wife was 3 months pregnant. Since then, Eli has closed his SNS accounts, but the shock from fans is still showing.
Still, we wish Congratulations to both Eli and Dongho.
V-App Brings Fans & Idols Closer
V APP, is definitely an amazing thing that came out for international K-POP fans! Not only can fans keep up with their favorite groups by subscribing to their channel, they are able to interact with the group as well. V app broadcasts backstage secret cams, beauty and movie posts, and whatever a group wants to share. There’s also the added bonus of the potential to have your name called out by your faves!
The Army Took Our Men
There’s no describing how sad it is to watch our idols say goodbye as they enter their mandatory military service. Super Junior lost 5 members this year– Shin Dong, Sung Min, Eun Hyuk, Dong Hae and Siwon
JYJ lost Jaejoong and Yoochun to the army this year as well, along with both members of TVXQ
Kim Hyun Joong
JYJ Law Is Passed!
In November 2015 this law was passed, despite being denied months before in June. This law will prevent idols from being blacklisted from appearing on TV, because a third party has requested it. Due to pass relationship with SM Entertainment, JYJ was unable to perform on music shows, and meet fans through their performances like other idol groups. With this law going forward, others will be protected from the treatment that JYJ has received from SM Entertainment.
CL Solo/American Debut
CL took a huge step this year, putting her name out for everyone to see as she embarks on the American music scene. She has been featured on Dr. Pepper as well released “Hello Bitches”.
Congrats on your first win
Getting 1st place on a music show is a huge deal. While it may be commonplace to hear some names at the top, the groups below got their first win this year.
BIG BANG and 2NE1 Make Big Waves
Big Bang made a comeback after 2 years with their MADE series, which received a lot of love from fans.
They came back on the scene with “Loser”, which had K-Pop and even K-Drama lovers singing the song, whether they were performing it on stage, or being played in drama they were watching. Each part of the series– M, A, D, E,– came with two tracks, usually a slower ballad and then a more hip hop based song, including the GD & TOP reunion “Zutter“.
The full album is still yet to be released and the group is currently preparing for the Japanese leg of their MADE Tour.
2NE1 also made a huge splash on the kpop scene this year. They’ve been on hiatus and though CL has the support of Blackjacks during her solo ventures, seeing the foursome return at this year’s MAMA awards was the highlight of the year for their fans. Check out the knock out performance below:
The rookie scene blew up this year. Between the veteran comebacks, the rookies have been working hard to make a name for themselves. We’ve got an eye out on a few, but what other rookie groups captured your heart?
Oh My Girl
Don’t forget the guys too: Monsta X, Seventeen, Romeo, N. Flying, Day6, UP10TION, and iKon.
