Def Jam princess Alessia Cara has lent her soulful vocals to a new Disney track called “How Far I’ll Go.” Written by the famous Lin-Manuel Miranda of the ultra-popular hit Broadway show “Hamilton”, the song is the theme song for Disney’s new movie called Moana, which comes out on November 23rd.
In the music video Alessia can be seen walking on the beach and drawing an intricate native design on the sand, as the gentle waves lap at her barefeet. Surrounded by rocks and colorful flowers, with her curly locks Alessia (whose real last name is Caracciolo) fits right in with the Polynesian theme of the movie, even though she’s Italian Canadian.
Also, fitting in with the theme of the movie are the lyrics of the song, which talks about striving, trying to be better, and ultimately not giving up. As the chorus goes “if I go, there is no telling how far I’ll go.”
The 20 year old Alessia, with her teenage vibe is the perfect person to have sung this song.
