It’s the summer comeback season again in K-pop and Korea. Seven girl groups have made or are going to hold their comeback promotions soon: Sistar last June 20 with “I Like That”, Gfriend this July, Red Velvet next month, Wonder Girls with “Why So Lonely” on July 5, the I.O.I. sub-unit this coming July, and Jellyfish girl group gu9dan with their debut song “Wonderland” next week on June 28.
Last but not least, YG Entertainment’s long-awaited girl group, popularly known as YG SNSD, will debut sometime this summer. Four members have already been announced: Jennie Kim, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rose.
Korean girl groups will also be promoting a lot in Japan this summer, in addition to Korea. Girl group AOA were the first to announce a summer comeback in Japan, shortly after wrapping up promotions for their new mini album “Good Luck” in Korea. AOA will be releasing their 5th Japanese single, a Japanese remake of “Good Luck”, on August 3.
Girl group A Pink will also release their 6th Japanese single “Summertime”, the group’s second original Japanese single, on the same day August 3. Both AOA and A Pink are signed under record label Universal Music Japan.
CLC also announced the release of their second Japanese mini album “Chamisma”, scheduled a week before AOA and A Pink release their new singles, on July 27. CLC and A Pink were formerly girl groups under the same label, Cube Entertainment. A Pink were later moved to LOEN Entertainment, as LOEN acquired A Pink’s label, A Cube, a subsidiary of Cube, in 2015. A Pink are currently signed in Korea under Plan A Entertainment, a subsidiary of LOEN.
Before their return to Korea for their “Good Luck” comeback, AOA released their 4th Japanese single “Give Me Love (Feat. T.M. Revolution)” in April, their first ever original Japanese single.
A Pink also released their first original Japanese single this year, with their 5th single “Brand New Days” last March.
CLC debuted in Japan this year last April, with their first Japanese mini album “High Heels”, which featured several Japanese remakes of their original Korean songs.
