Earlier in the month the Rolling stone magazine did a short feature of Charlie Puth, were he gives a demonstration breaking down the elements of his hit track “Attention.”
Attention was released in April of 2017, and has been ranked top ten in several countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lebanon, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United Shares.
In the video for Rolling Stone, Charlie Puth highlights his creative process and provides insights to what made Attention so amazing. Such as the epic bassline, the guitar riff at the beginning, the surprise anti-drop, the vocal stacks in the chorus, and how he takes each chord and makes it different and then repeats it.
Charlie Puth says the melody of the song was inspired by late 80s to 90s RnB especially Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam, who were a songwriting and record production team. They created 31 top ten hits in the US and UK, most notably with Janet Jackson. success since the 1980s with various artists, most notably Janet Jackson.
In May of 2017, Charlie Puth performed Attention on The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, with the help from The Roots. This performance really showcased the individual elements of the song, most importantly the bass.
What was most impressive about the making of Attention is that he made it on his phone and at home. He used a phone app and Pro Tools on a Mac.
