Sheffield Grime artist Coco links up with big, bad and heavy Jamaican reggae artist Protoje for his serious new track “Ova Here” – his second release on Toddla T’s Steeze label. Hot off his last track “My G”, Coco follows it up and takes it to Jamaica for “Ova Here” featuring Protoje to get you in the Carnival spirit!
Fueled with a lurking bassline that is accentuated with snares and a mysterious tinkling key melody, the track “Ova Here” shows Coco’s versatility as he spits over a dark beat and shows him playing his position as a flow-master, making it a certified tune for London’s forthcoming Notting Hill Carnival this weekend.
Filmed in Kingston, Jamaica, Protoje’s hometown, and produced by Toddla T & The Drum Keys, Coco releases his thoughts on his music journey and the system as he gets lyrical in a mindful state for the video.
Coco shared: “Feels such a privilege to work with Protoje. Was sick going over to Jamaica to film the video and see my roots.”
Proving to be a big year for Coco, 2016 kicked off with him being named in Mixmag as one of Annie Mac’s artists to watch, and he has since gone on to justify over and above as to why he earned the title.
The Sheffield native was announced by Huw Stephens to perform at Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing stage and he dropped an almighty “Fire in the Booth” for BBC DJ Charlie Sloth. He has since continued to hit smash some HUGE stages, taking to Ibiza Rocks to support Stormzy and performing at Red Bull’s Manchester Carnival.
Most recently he was personally asked to perform at the Royal Albert Hall for Jamie Cullum’s BBC Proms. There is still more left in store, as he hits Bestival and Notting Hill Carnival, prior to his recently announced headline show at London O2 Academy2, Islington, on September 22. Check it out here.
Coco has been busy with many performances, such as at the Royal Albert Hall last week where Jamie Cullum invited him to perform with him at the BBC Proms, along with Glastonbury, Manchester Carnival, Ibiza Rocks and more!
You’ll definitely be turning up to this riddim when you press play. Get ready for the vibes on this one!
