Usually, most artists from anywhere in the world seek to crossover to the United States. But, Jidenna seems to have reversed this trend. In his latest single “Boomerang”, he seems to have gone beyond influence alone, but has now completely embraced the contemporary sound of his father’s motherland of Nigeria, afrobeats.

With break-out hits like “Long Live The Chief” and “Chief Don’t Run”, Jidenna’s music has been firmly centered on hiphop. But, even in those tracks, there has been an unmistakable afrobeats flavor as well as references.

“Bambi” was another single that gave hints of American born Jidenna’s proclivities for afrobeats, even though the melodious and slow track was more R&B.

Jidenna does not make an appearance in the music video for Boomerang. Instead, featured are a couple dancing the smoothest and latest afrobeats dance moves, with Queens NY in the background.

Boomerang is part of Jidenna’s latest EP, also called Boomerang.
