There is a hot new Korean indie band in town: four-member Hyukoh (혁오).
Lead singer Oh Hyuk might already look familiar, if you stan Amoeba Culture’s enigmatic producer, Primary: they recently released Lucky You!, a moody, synthy rock EP with three equally moody MVs. Check out the one for “Gondry” ft. Lim Kim for a taste:
However, most of the attention the whole band is getting comes from their new role on the popular variety show Infinite Challenge. Hyukoh is one of competitors in the 2015 Summer Music Festival. The first two festival episodes have already aired and it looks like Hyukoh is now partnered with cast member Jung Hyung Don for the remainder of the songwriting competition.
Fellow competitor and “Nation’s Little Sister” IU has also come out as a Hyukoh fan – an admission that is no doubt fueling some additional buzz for the band both inside Korea and out.
Check out Oh Hyuk’s masked performance from the first round of the competition:
And the whole band performing Wi Ing Wi Ing on the show…
And even if you’re not watching Infinite Challenge, you may have run into Hyukoh on a recent episode of Show Me the Money 4 – where they performed with Tablo of Epik High.
That’s all fine and dandy, but what do they usually sound like?! Well, pretty darn awesome!
Discography info is still sketchy for us English speakers – but they have SoundCloud![soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/users/43055764″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
You can also find a few music videos – here is their latest single, Hookah…
And they performed on Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook back in April – here they are singing Ohio…
See! Aren’t they just the bee’s knees?
Definitely keep your eyes on this band, Hyukoh is going places!.
