KCON just announced two more groups joining the biggest K-pop festival in Los Angeles this year. Top SM boy group SHINee and fresh debut girl group I.O.I are going to be performing at KCON 2016 LA this summer. KCON LA this year will be held from July 29 to 31 at the Staples Center and Los Angeles Convention Center. SHINee have also been announced to be the headline act of the event.
KCON was started in 2012 by Korean media giant CJ E&M and subsidiary company Mnet Media, with a vision to make it the world’s greatest Korean music and culture festival. The first KCON event was held in California in 2012 and later expanded to New York and Japan, and this year KCON held its first event in the Middle East and will be holding its first event in Europe next week. Besides the K-pop performances and choreography booths in the venue during the event, there are also Korean drama viewings, Korean food sampling, and many other activities. Tickets for KCON LA will begin selling on June 3.
SHINee’s last comeback was in 2015, when they released their 4th album “Odd”, title track “View”, and a repackage “Married to the Music”. Taemin and Jonghyun both made their first solo comebacks this year, Taemin last February with “Press It”, title track “Press Your Number”, and Jonghyun last week with “She Is”. I.O.I. debuted earlier this month on May 4 with “Dream Girls”, with the 11 finalists of the 11-week Mnet-produced idol reality show “Produce 101”. SHINee and I.O.I. will be joining Block B, Gfriend, Twice, CNBLUE, Girls’ Generation-TTS, BTS, ASTRO, and DEAN this summer in KCON LA.
