Philadelphia, May 12, 2017 – Next week, an epic music genre from across the pond is hitting the East Coast. The rising UK rap genre, known all over in the scene as grime, is going to make awesome waves in Philadelphia next week with the first ever Grime Nights installment. Grime emerged straight up from hip-hop, dance-hall, garage, as well as drum-n-bass.

This is an event that, if you’re in the area, you definitely don’t want to miss out on – whether you’re a hardcore grime fan or a curious music aficionado. It’s going to be all about the brewing grime scene in the US. The inaugural Grime Nights show will feature the talent that’s been making it over here for a good while now, with the first show starring local artists Samyo and DJ ICE. DJ Goodmo will also be pumping out good vibes as he puts on beat grime hits from the genre’s greats: Stormzy, Skepta, Tinie Tempah, Section Boyz, and more.

The awesome show is going to open at the W/N W/N Coffee Bar at 931 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia, that’s going to be packed with impact on May 17. Check out GMM’s dedicated page for the first ever Grime Nights.

From the crew behind Grimes Nights:

Our goal is to support local talent and introduce the area to the eclectic sounds of UK rap also known as grime music – a genre based off hip-hop, dance-hall, garage, as well as drum-n-bass.

The first star in the roster is none other than Samyo the Artist. Despite being a newcomer to the scene, Samyo’s already rising straight to the top as an indie artist making an impact in the scene. Growing up in New Jersey, he’s honed a sound, style, and flow that sends out good vibes like no other.

Samyo’s already gotten two mixtapes out there, titled “In My Feelings” and “Life vs. Love”. He’s always inspired to put his music out into the world, that packs a sound that lifts your mood up and that you’ll definitely relate to. The rapper, writer, and singer’s love for music shines out of his every pore. He’s performed at shows all over New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and he’s just getting started.

Samyo’s got dreams to share his positive message with the whole wide world and change things up in the music business. Samyo sat down with us and shared his story and journey as his very own grime artist. Take it away, Samyo!

What or who inspires you as an artist and an individual?

What better way to inspire what you love than by those you love. My friends, family, and life experiences inspire not only who I am as an individual, but my music also. I strive to create a sound that is relatable and enjoyed by those of all ages.

Who or what do you aspire to be or become as an artist or individual?

I aspire to be the best I can be. My goal is not fame or even popularity. I strive to work hard, stay positive, and for my music to be heard.

From your local community perspective, how can the youth be supported to pursue and achieve their goals as artists, or in the careers of their choice?

I live in the Burlington County community, which is filled with youth and hidden talents. The younger community is in need of a positive impact that inspires them to work hard and follow their dreams. Although it’s not a job that can be accomplished by one alone, I hope to inspire the youth, as I too follow my dreams. Hard work always pay off in the end, and I inspire to be proof. If I can achieve my goal, so can they.

The next star of the lineup is DJ ICE, born in Torrance, California, and raised in South Jersey. The mic is yours, DJ:

My name is DJ ICE. I was born in Torrance, California. I grew up in South Jersey. I’m 33 years old. I’ve been DJ’ing for 17 years. I’ve been an artist for a year. I work with all genres of music. I love performing and meeting new PEOPLE.

What or who inspires you as an artist and an individual?

DJ Kid Capri is my idol. He made me want to get on my tables. I love entertaining people and I love music so it works.

I’ve always looked up to my mom. She is tough, but only because she knows I’m capable of doing anything. She’s always been someone in my life that inspires me to do anything I put my mind to.

Who or what do you aspire to be or become as an artist or individual?

I want to be the artist that leaves a piece of them in the game forever.  I want to help others with my talent.

From your local community perspective, how can the youth be supported to pursue and achieve their goals as artists, or in the careers of their choice?

There are so many things, as a community, we can do to guide our youth down the right path. Volunteers can pull together and hold community days, where we can show them what’s out here, and guide them to do it in the most efficient way to ensure their success. It takes a village, and if everyone comes together, our youth can be saved.
