Debuting on October 5, FNC Entertainment’s new boy group called SF9, which is shortened from Sensational Feeling 9, have released the MV for their debut single “Fanfare.” The group are releasing a debut single’s album called “Feeling Sensation.”
Fanfare is hip-hop themed, with beautifully crafted melodies in the bridge sections of the song. The rapping is good enough, and the accompanied beat varies often, but still keeps the track interesting. Their vocal-singing section is definitely very strong, falsetto included.
The concept of SF9 is a bit of a departure from the standard boy groups in FNC Entertainment, like CNBlue and FT Island, who are more rock-band themed and don’t do synchronized choreography. FNC appears to be following in the footsteps of other mid-sized kpop agencies like BigHit and Starship Entertainment, who have cultivated successful hip-hop themed k-pop boy groups in Bangtan Boys and Monsta X, respectively.
As the number 9 indicates there are nine members, Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Rowoon, Zuho, Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chan. They originally came together, during their pre-debut, as a dance team called Neoz Dance Team. They officially became SF9 on August 23, 2016, when FNC made it official. FNC initially indicated their desire to create the group in December of 2015.
However, the MV didn’t give a good sense of their strength as dancers. The part of the choreography that was shown had some strong parts, but some parts lacked energy and vibrancy. Here’s another look with the full choreography.
