Every year, around this time the A&Rs and recruiters at SM Entertainment pack their bags and fan out to the four corners of the globe, looking for the next Jessica Jung or Wendy. And, every year kpop idol hopefuls polish up their singing and dancing hoping to impress the judges. But, something about this year may be a little different: BTS.
BTS in 2017 has made major milestones in America, yet unachieved by previous kpop groups who tried to enter the American pop conciousness. So, will SM Entertainment consider this in this recruitment round?
If so, for sure they will be looking for some English speakers. Because, from now on they will make sure at least one member of their kpop groups can speak English.
Beyond that, the major categories SM Entertainment will be auditioning for are vocal, dance, acting, modeling and writing/composing music.
Called the “2018 S.M. Global Audition,” the auditions will begin in Korea on Jan. 21. Then they will be traveling to 45 cities across 10 countries, including China, Taiwan, USA, Indonesia, Canada and Japan.
In addition, for the first time SM Entertainment will be auditioning extensively in South America, visiting Chile and Argentina. SM will also be auditioning in Vietnam for the first time.
The SM Entertainment auditions are open to all nationalities, gender and ages.
