It was in a newspaper Interview, just before the release of his debut album called “Gang Signs & Prayer” or #GSAP, that Stormzy said he wanted to be treated with the same respect as Frank Ocean and Adele. Well, if there were any doubters they can doubt no more, as #GSAP has broken chart records with single “Shape of You”, a remix and collaboration with Ed Sheeran, topping the UK charts at #1 for eight straight weeks. And, that’s not all.

With 16 tracks, #GASP has all of them on the Top 100 in the UK. An achievement only shared by 3 other artists Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.

Continuing to give Bieber a run for his money, Stormzy’s #GSAP has seven tracks in the Top 40 in the UK, which just missed out by one in tying Justin Bieber’s record of 8, set in 2015.

In addition, the album also sits at number of the Irish Top 50 albums, and has “the most first-week streams for a Number 1 album in chart history”, according the Mobo Awards.

In his exact words to the Guardian newspaper, Stormzy says,

“This album is good, this is incredible, this is heartfelt, this has been put together so well, so strategically, so neatly, so creatively – so respect me the same way you’re going to respect a Frank Ocean or an Adele.”

Stormzy worked with Fraser T. Smith, a grammy winning producer who has worked with Adele.

The groundbreaking album, which is reaching new heights unattained in the past by grime artists, features other collaborations, including with Khelani And Ghetts.

Gang Signs and Prayer is available on iTunes.
