The Minions Movie opened on Friday July 10, 2015, and it’s already making waves around the world. The much anticipated family film from Illumination Studios and Universal Pictures, follows the minions from their beginnings in prehistoric time to New York City in 1968, as they search for the biggest, baddest, villain to serve. The 91 minutes animated movie is the prequel to Despicable Me, and the voice cast includes Sandra Bullock, Pierre Coffin, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, Steve Coogan and Geoffrey Rush.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie is estimated to have made $45 million-plus on Friday, and is expected to make in the $115 million range for the weekend opening. This is the second-best showing of all time for an animated film, not considering inflation.

Outside the United States it’s even bigger. Minions is already a blockbuster and was expected to surpass $200 million in ticket sales on Friday. It opened No. 1 in many regions, breaking records in France and Russia.
