The first African-American K-Pop girl group Coco Avenue reached another milestone in their career with the release of their first original Korean song “TTMU” last month.
After three years of covering the music of famous K-Pop artists such as Jay Park and 4Minute, and Big Bang, they are ready to present the fans with K-Pop music of their own!
CoCo Avenue is a K-Pop band created by two African-American vocalists, Jenna and Jenny. What started out as love for Korean music sparked into something that’s truly groundbreaking. The two women met through social media, and started covering K-Pop songs together on YouTube. They have now evolved into a full band with an original K-pop song!
Their new song “TTMU” is short for “Turn The Music Up.” It has a groovy R&B and upbeat sound with a catchy melody. The lyrics is about getting over your ex and moving on forward. The music video features Jenny and Jenna as well as the choreography for the song. Considering how they are not native speakers of Korean, the group did an amazing job singing in Korean. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to “TTMU.” It has a fun beat to it, and the vocals of Jenny and Jenna blend in together to create a catchy K-Pop tune.
CoCo Avenue is gaining more and more recognition in the K-Pop scene. They have performed for KCON LA for two consecutive years and also performed for KTown Night Market. I hope to see them release more K-Pop songs in the near future!
